SRRA’s mandate is to assist policy makers make more informed decisions with evidence based, non-partisan research.

SRRA convenes a conversation between the public, private and institutional sectors, allowing participants to share knowledge, data and information. Our partnership between governments, and the private sector seeks to provide a better understanding of the components and complexities of making informed policy and investment decisions.

Iain Dobson
Co-Founder

Iain Dobson has devoted the last 16 years of his career to policy innovation in infrastructure investment. He has served on the Board of Metrolinx, Transit Investment Strategy Advisory Panel, a member of the CivicAction Commercial Building Advisory Panel, and on the Expert Panel on the Sheppard Transit Corridor. From 2000, he developed a world class real estate data company and for 25 years prior to that was engaged in the commercial real estate development industry.

Mr. Dobson has received numerous industry awards and has spoken at many of North Americas leading real estate associations, including NAIOP, SIOR, Canadian Land Economists, Real Estate Forums and has appeared on radio and TV programs such as Metro Morning and Cross Canada Check Up among others.

Active in the community, he is currently a member on the advisory panel of LIGHTS, which is a unique program working in partnership with Community Living Toronto stimulate independent Living by those with intellectual challenges

Iain Dobson has devoted the last 16 years of his career to policy innovation in infrastructure investment with an emphasis on the importance of aligning development and public transit. In 2006, Iain Dobson along with Glenn Miller and the Canadian Urban Institute formed a working partnership to develop solutions to the ever-growing problem of connecting home to work and solutions to congestion. This partnership of urban planning and commercial real estate knowledge prompted the creation of Strategic Regional Research Alliance (SRRA).

He has served on the Board of Metrolinx, Transit Investment Strategy Advisory Panel, a member of the CivicAction Commercial Building Advisory Panel, and on the expert panel on the Sheppard transit corridor.

During a career in commercial real estate development from 1975 to 2000 and the development of a world class real estate data company he received numerous industry awards and has spoken at many of North Americas leading real estate associations, including NAIOP, SIOR, Canadian Land Economists, Real Estate Forums and has appeared on radio and TV programs such as Metro Morning and Cross Canada Check Up among others.

Active in the community, he volunteers as a member on the advisory panel of LIGHTS, which is a unique program working in partnership with Community Living Toronto stimulate independent Living by those who would have to rely on others for housing. He has previously sat on the Alumni Board of the University of Toronto Schools and is former Chair of the Jackman Institute of Child Study Daycare.

Glenn Miller
Co-Founder

For more than 20 years, Glenn Miller led the Canadian Urban Institute’s education and research program, focusing on growth management, downtown revitalization and the impact of demographic change. He is a co-founder of the Strategic Regional Research Alliance and a Senior Associate with the CUI. Glenn has published a great deal on planning policy in Canada and contributes to many notable publications on planning policy.

Glenn holds a Masters in Urban Planning from McGill’s School of Urban Planning and an Honours B.A. in Urban Studies from Concordia University. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners and for 25 years was editor of the Ontario Planning Journal (1986-2011). He has taught at Seneca College’s Centre for the Built Environment, Ryerson University’s School of Urban and Regional Planning and in 2012 was Planner in Residence at the University of Waterloo. Glenn is currently a member of the Editorial Board of Plan Canada, the national magazine of the Canadian Institute of Planners.

Stephen Johnson
Director of Research

Stephen Johnson joined SRRA’s core team in 2016. He has worked at the Federal, Provincial and Municipal levels of government and has considerable expertise in intergovernmental relations, fiscal policy and transportation policy to complement SRRA’s established strengths in commercial real estate, transit planning and urban development.

Prior to his public service, Stephen was a Senior Associate in a Toronto based consulting and project management firm specializing in first of a kind and project recovery engagements in the energy, finance and public sectors.

Stephen holds a Master of Arts from the University of Toronto focused on international political economy and a Joint Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from McGill University. An incomplete PhD in comparative politics at the University of Toronto remains on his “to do” list.

Stephen is a Toronto native and proud father of 4 daughters and 2 stepdaughters.
